I admit that I am powerless over my addiction to racism in ways I am unable to fully recognize, understand, or manage on my own.
Step 2 – Faith
I believe that a Power greater than myself can restore me to the non-racist person God intended me to be.
Step 3 – Surrender
For my own well-being and for the benefit of future generations, I choose to turn my will and my life over to the care of God as I understand God.
Step 4 – Self-Examination
I make a searching and fearless moral inventory of myself concerning my attitudes, biases, and prejudices related to race, class, gender, physical appearance, abilities, nationality, sexual orientation, and all forms of human difference.
Step 5 – Confession
I admit to God, to myself, and to another human being the exact nature of my wrongful thoughts, attitudes, and actions.
Step 6 – Readiness
I am entirely ready to have God remove these defects of character and the prejudices that separate me from others.
Step 7 – Humility
I humbly ask God to remove my shortcomings and help me grow in compassion, understanding, and justice.
Step 8 – Responsibility
I make a list of all persons I have harmed through prejudice, discrimination, indifference, or injustice and become willing to make amends whenever possible.
Step 9 – Reconciliation
I make direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when doing so would cause further harm to them or others.
Step 10 – Continuous Growth
I continue to take personal inventory, and when I act or think wrongly, I promptly acknowledge and correct my behavior.
Step 11 – Spiritual Practice
Through prayer, reflection, and meditation, I seek to strengthen my relationship with God as I understand God, seeking wisdom, guidance, and the courage to follow what is right.
Step 12 – Service
Having experienced personal transformation through these steps, I commit to sharing this message with others and practicing these principles in all areas of my life, helping to build a more just, inclusive, and compassionate world.
